Jazzfest 2012 First Friday

Thought I would come back to Jazzfest  2012 and put up pics from that first Friday. As I've written previously I like to move around from stage to stage throughout the day. These pictures are from the Gospel Tent, Blues Tent, Jazz Tent, Fais Do Do Stage , Congo Square Stage and the Jazz and Heritage Stage as well as some random shots from around the festival grounds. Perfomers on Friday included the Young Pinstripe Brass Band, Geno Delafose, Leah Chase, James Andrews, Seun Kuti, BeauSoleil, the Texas Tornadoes featuring Flaco Jimenez and the Real Untouchables Brass Band. NOJHF 2012 First Friday Secondline

Jazzfest is a great place to see parades and secondlines.  Here are a few photos from one of the secondlines on the first Friday at Fest. Typically the parade features the Brass Band that just finished up on the Jazz and Heritage stage, and one or sometimes 2 social and pleasure clubs. This one featured the Young Pinstripe Brass Band with the Keep N It Real and We Are One Social Aid & Pleasure Clubs.

NOJHF 2012: Creole Wild West Mardi Gras Indians

As I have said before, one of my favorite stages at JazzFest is the Jazz and Heritage Stage and one of my favorite things to see at this stage are the Mardi Gras Indians. On the Saturday of the first weekend of this year's Fest, I had the privelege to see one of my favorite Mardi Gras Indian tribes- Big Chief Walter Cook and Creole Wild West Mardi Gras Indians. Their suits were fantastic and oh so pretty and they put on a great show. Jazz Fest "man in charge" Quint Davis announced the group and danced briefly with them on stage- see if you can spot him in a couple of the pictures in the slideshow below. For me, this show was one of the highlights of this years fest. Hope you enjoy!
