BTW....Wynton Marsalis and Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra were great..
...show was this afternoon at Kimmel Center in Center City, Pennsylvania. Great show as usual- those guys can play...1st half of show was with a smaller group- 6-7 players doing some early 1900's jazz by way of Paris, France..Wynton really seems to enjoy himself when he plays and it comes thru in his playing and I'm thinking also positively impacts rest of group. He was also very funny- concert was final performance of the month long Philadelphia International Festival of the Arts (PIFA) which was apparently a huge success (read about it here). Anyway, theme of festival was France so concert and the music was supposed to have connections to France but the connections were loose at best and Mr.Marsalis was very funny in his attempts to "verify" or "prove" that the music being played actually had any kind of- pardon the pun- "French Connection".anyway, 2nd half of show showcased the full 16 piece ensemble and it was a real treat to here some Ellington, Benny Moten and Sidney Bechet pieces fully realized..Wow- if you ever have opportunity to see this orchestra perform- jump at it . Even tho I have seen them several times in various configurations I always make a point to see them whenever I can.
