Its Fest Time...
..down in New Orleans..not able to make it this year..gonna do all I can to watch and listen from back East. This weekend looks like 'Oz is best bet for audio streaming. Next weekend apparently RollingStone.com is streaming some live performances. I'll take what I can get. When I get a chance will throw up some of my pics from Jazzfests past. Happy Fest!

Eastward, ho....
..actually maybe shouldn't use "ho"..means something different in this day and age..anyway, in flight on way back from Los Angeles (Santa Monica,CA to be exact) to Philly...listening to 'Oz again way up in the sky- crazy...had a nice week..my brother's wedding went off nicely-good party..even featured some Cajun dancing ..he and his new wife are big Cajun music fans and are learning to waltz..didn't see or hear much in way of New Orleans or Louisiana otherwise..did hear on radio that Pres Hall Jazz Band is coming to LA area sometime soon and Lil Wayne was at the Staples Center..Most of the NO music I heard was from my mp3 player that I put on handlebars of my brothers bike that I borrowed for the week to ride up and down the Pacific Ocean bike path near his apartment. Pretty cool riding along the surf with the morning sun coming up and hearing a mix of NO music- Dr John, Rebirth, Professor Longhair- as I rode along..Doesn't get much better than that..Had some great Mexican food and took a day trip to the Mojave desert to drive - of all things- military vehicles including jeeps and tanks! crazy..anyway..thats it for now - will be getting back to NO related posts in nxt couple days...M

Rebirth in Hoboken?
My wife and I had an interesting adventure last nite. Drove up from Philly burbs to Hoboken, NJ. Hit Carlo's Bakery (home of the Cake Boss), had dinner up the street (Hummus Bar) and then ended up at Maxwell's for a hour and a half of the Rebirth Brass Band. Unbelievable show- crowd was enthusiastic and band was cookin'. Hoboken, who knew?
By the way Rebirth's New Release Comes out Tomorrow 4.12.11..Check it out free streaming online here.

Jazz Funeral in Coney Island
On the 1 year anniversary of the Second Line across the Brooklyn Bridge in NYC, I was at the Jazz Funeral for Coney Island yesterday. I had not been out to Coney Island for some 25 years. It was a beautiful day for an outdoor event- I had lunch at Nathan's Famous (the Original) and then wandered over to the Coney Island Museum to hang out with the parade participants and some fellow New Orleans aficionados. The parade featured New Orleans' own Darryl "Dancing Man 504" Young and NYC's Jambalaya Brass Band. The event was well attended -especially by photographers and videographers!

Live from Tipitina's Tonite and Tomorrow Nite: Brass Band Blowout
I mentioned in one of my earlier posts that you can listen and watch most shows at Tipitina's in New Orleans on the web. Tonite and tomorrow they have 2 great shows. Tonite Friday April 1st (no joke!) it's the Stooges Brass Band and tomorrow nite you can watch the To Be Continued Brass Band live while sitting in front of your PC or laptop right here back East. The Stooges won last years Red Bull Street Kings competition- beating out the other top brass bands in New Orleans. The TBC brass band play most nites at Canal and Bourbon in New Orleans in additon to regular club dates- young and high energy. Enjoy. Go HERE for the webcasts.
